Wear What You Want

by

About a month ago I sat down in my bedroom scrolling through Pinterest and I thought to myself “why can’t I dress like that?” “Why am I so scared to wear the things that I think are really dope?”. To answer this question, I’ll tell it to you straight, I simply care too much about what other people will think of me and this is when I decided that its time for me to rethink things and start dressing to please myself and nobody else. I have come across so many women, including myself, who wake up in the morning and throw on an outfit that keeps them in the safe zone especially professionals. But then I had an epiphany that it doesn’t always have to be like this. Realizing this has inspired me to come out of my shell a bit more and explore the thousands of different and unique styles that are out there. We do not need to be afraid of having our own sense of style because essentially that’s what makes us all unique.

When it comes to the professional side of things there are many ways to dress appropriately but at the same time it is possible to be fashion forward and this is something I am trying to start getting the hang of because very soon I will become apart of the business world. Just because I will be working does not mean I have to let my personal style slide out the window – its something that I have been working on for years and now that I am finally starting to find my own style I think its about damn time I embracing it. Knowing your personal style boils down to knowing yourself and knowing what makes you look and feel good. Not only can it make your shopping life so much easier as you avoid impulse buying and you end up saving a tonne of money, it can also add to your self confidence and like I always say “look good, feel good”.

So I have come to the conclusion that I don’t need to be wearing current trends to look like a fashionista because that only creates a huge hole in my pocket and I never end up wearing those clothes ever again which is such a waste. So instead I have decided to budget and buy things that suit my personal style as well as most items in my wardrobe which will give me more wear out of it. I also decided that who cares if I want to wear a dress over my jersey, who cares if I want to wear sliders with a formal pants, who cares if I want to wear what I want to wear? We live in a society that is so quick to judge and criticize people’s outfits and I will admit that I have too often been that person but it is time for me to quit the judging and start embracing people’s unique style because you never know, you might learn something from them and end up stealing with the eye.
