Twenty One.

The excitement for birthday celebrations never gets old. It took me months to decide what I wanted to do for my birthday and when I finally knew what I wanted I started planning what kind of party I wanted, I thought about the setting, envisioned how beautiful it would look for pictures with fairy lights and I even got to the point where I started making a mental list of the people I wanted to invited. Unfortunately after spending so much energy on something I had waited to celebrate for twenty years, life got in the way and screwed me over. Everything changed and that meant giving up my birthday too.

Fortunately I have people in my family who are so thoughtful -including my boyfriend. They planned a ‘surprise birthday dinner’ for me. I had a suspicion that they were planning something and somehow the ‘surprise’ got out the bag.

Although I knew about the dinner, I had no idea that they had a few more tricks up their sleeves.

I know my thank you speech was terrible and I choked on my tears and didn’t get to say half the things I would have liked to so I am hoping that this will reach you guys.

To my party planners: Janine and Brandon I cannot thank you enough for all the thought and effort you put into making my birthday so special! I am thankful and grateful to have people like you in my life. And of course not to forget my family members who are always willing to help wherever they can, sadly not everyone has that kind of love in their life so I am very fortunate in that way. A special thank you to my mother for raising me so well. I always admired her for her strength and values and I hope that one day I too will be able to be a strong and independent woman with a kind soul.

Thank you to my friends who joined in on the celebrations, even though we don’t see each other often or even talk as much as we used to, it still feels as if nothing has changed and that is the way I would like it to stay. I enjoyed your company!

Even though I had these big dreams for my 21st Birthday that did not materialize, I still had a wonderful birthday – it was intimate, there was good food, and lovely people. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!

Hip, Hip,
